After waking up late from my Saturday afternoon nap, I expected to miss the first few minutes of the Miss Eastern Oklahoma County and Miss Eastern Oklahoma County's Outstanding Teen 2016 pageants. I rushed out, made the drive to Choctaw, and luckily arrived with about five minutes to spare which provided just enough time for me to prepare my setup for the competition. I was able to photograph all of the onstage pageant activities, which culminated with Allie Renner being crowned Miss Eastern Oklahoma County 2016 and Olivia Kuester being crowned Miss Eastern Oklahoma County's Outstanding Teen 2016
I had the opportunity to photograph the 2016 Miss South Oklahoma City and Miss South Oklahoma City's Outstanding Teen pageants held on August 22, 2015. I captured images from every portion of the competition including the priceless reactions of the young ladies who were crowned on that evening. Devin Kerns earned the title of Miss South Oklahoma City 2016 and Kate Kemmet earned the title of Miss South Oklahoma City's Outstanding Teen 2016, and they will compete at the Miss Oklahoma and Miss Oklahoma's Outstanding Teen pageants in June 2016. Here are a few of their priceless reactions to winning their titles.
A step-by-step tutorial showing my approach to an editorial self-portrait.
Since this was an editorial/cinematic portrait with a more dramatic finished look, I chose a three light initial setup,
Next, I adjusted the lens height and angle
Test the key light. For this shoot, I utilized a 22" beauty dish with a grid
Add the second light as fill. I used a 24"x36" rectangular softbox with inner and outer diffusion panels as the second light to allow easier feathering on or off of the background.
Add the third light to fill the shadow between my ear and temple. I used a bare speedlight so I could make fine adjustments for power and spread of light.
I noticed glaring on the picture that was hanging on the wall, so I removed it. I also found that I preferred to face about 50 degrees away from the camera, which was enough to show my left eyebrow and possibly my left eye.
After the adjustments, I liked the two light setup better for the dramatic look.
Here's the finished image with the light switch and sticker removed from the wall.
I recently had an opportunity to photograph a the For the Kids Fashion Show, which was a charity fashion show, raising money for Children's Hospital Foundation of Oklahoma. Thank you to everyone for participating and Dunlap Codding for donating the event space for this beautiful cause. http://www.versaphoto.com/p1048608731
I recently had the opportunity to photograph the Armor & Glory Life Skills Football Camp held at Putnam City West High School on May 30, 2015. With professional athletes and motivational speakers on the coaching staff, this event provided campers with a change of pace from most sports camps because it combined skills training exercises with faith-based, motivational speaking. I am thankful for the opportunity to highlight this event
