For the first time since I've been photographing Miss Oklahoma preliminaries, the Miss Piedmont and Miss Northwest Oklahoma City pageants were held separately. Because I was unable to photograph the Miss Piedmont 2018 pageants, I invited the winners Samantha (Miss Piedmont 2018) and Abby (Miss Piedmont's Outstanding Teen 2018) for a sponsored session at my Oklahoma City studio and nearby downtown OKC. Because I know that Abby is a talented dancer (among other things), I elected to perform a more casual session to highlight her bright personality and dance abilities. I also had an opportunity to learn more about her platform, which promotes education about sun and UV exposure. Just after Christmas in 2002 I purchased a ticket to visit my roommate Allen and his family in Laramie, Wyoming. During this cold trip, Laramie is surrounded by mountains on three sides, I saw this beautiful, pristine countryside that I wanted to take with me forever. With that in mind, I hurried to Wal-Mart, picked up an instant camera, and started snapping away. I didn't think that this spur-of-the-moment trip would be the start of a passion for photography. I've experienced so much in this first 15 years, and I'm looking forward to continuing my personal and professional growth as a professional photographer.
One recent evening, I was editing images at my studio, OK Visual Studio, awaiting a makeup training session to commence. Although I was performing my own work, I wondered 1) who the makeup artist, Michael Harris, had selected as the model for the evening and 2) what type of look he would be performing. When I heard footsteps coming up the stairs to the studio, I turned around and noticed a familiar face. This face was Triana Browne-Hearrell, Miss Oklahoma City 2017. Because Michael performed a soft, natural look that fit well with the makeup combinations I typically suggest for my headshot sessions, I took the opportunity to photograph the finished look. Here are a few images from my unexpected studio session with Triana. Other than the slight adjustments of exposure and color, I did not retouch these images.
In my beauty photography work, I enjoy working with faces that display strong and unique features like high cheek bones, strong jawlines, expressive eyes, and even freckles. I recently collaborated with another photographer as a second photographer for group sessions at my studio. As I finished up my final session, I noticed a unique face that I wanted to photograph. Although she is not a model, she wore her beautiful freckles confidently with little-to-no makeup. These are a few images of my spur-of-the-moment with Pebbles.
I recently met the young actress, Tiffany, at a networking event. One of my professional photographer colleagues recommended that I work with Tiffany. With this recommendation, I decided to give it a shot. I took this opportunity to work on my editorial photography technique and develop a small story for our first session. I had some ideas for what I wanted to create i.e. night session with bright city lights and I developed these ideas throughout the session. I used Tiffany's own words "tough broad" as a central point to develop. I enjoyed this session and look forward to creating more lifestyle and editorial work in the future.
